Jamie Turnbull has worked as a physiotherapist since 2002. Before completing his physiotherapy degree at Dalhousie University, he studied Biology and Human Kinetics at St. Francis Xavier University. Jamie’s treatment approach has been influenced by working in multidisciplinary settings in Toronto and Halifax, combined with international work experience at various physiotherapy settings in the Netherlands and Australia.

His interests lie in orthopedics, neuropathic conditions, persistent pain conditions, vestibular dysfunctions, and strength training. His treatment techniques vary based on the condition but may include: manual therapy, Mulligan Technique, McKenzie Method, somatic exercises, functional dry needling, neural tissue mobilization, vestibular techniques, and progressive resistance training.

Jamie believes knowledge is empowering. He will try his best to help you understand what your body is trying to tell you and how it reacts to the various things we do. His aim is to leave you feeling confident in self-management of your symptoms as well as knowing how to further prevent injury.

Professional memberships: General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) of the United Kingdom, Ontario Association of Osteopaths, and the Nova Scotia Association of Osteopaths.

Martha Faron, a native of Worcester, MA, USA, is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BA in Communications in 1998. She began her career in emergency medicine and as a firefighter, reflecting her desire to help people in need of immediate care. These jobs required her to be physically fit and it was through sports (basketball, fencing, cross-country skiing, backpacking, kayaking) and being treated for injuries that developed her interest in manual medicine. She went on to complete postgraduate studies in Pre-Medicine in 2008 at UMass Amherst and a Master’s degree in Osteopathic manual therapy (M.Ost) in 2014 from the British School of Osteopathy in London, UK.

Osteopathic manual therapy aims to harness the innate healing abilities of the body whilst supporting a patient’s physical recovery using manual therapy and rehabilitative exercise. Her role as an osteopathic manual therapy is to guide, educate, and empower the patient during their treatment, with the patient at the center of the process.

Martha has extensive experience in the treatment and management of acute and chronic conditions and she can develop a care plan suited to the patient’s individual healthcare needs. She utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in treating musculoskeletal pain using dry needling, sports massage therapy and Reiki, alongside her osteopathic technique training. Her approach to patient rehabilitation and aftercare is informed by being a senior yoga instructor and lecturer for the past 16 years and her further study on exercise in the workplace for her Master’s dissertation.

Martha has specialist interests in the management of patients with chronic pain and has advanced training in the use of mindfulness meditation and acceptance commitment therapy (ACT). Her further post-graduate education in visceral osteopathy with the Barral Institute and Jean Pierre Barral DO has enhanced her knowledge of functional treatments for a patient with systemic conditions.

Martha welcomes patients of all ages for osteopathic manual therapy to manage their current health issues and restore a sense of balance and wellbeing in their lives.

OSTEOPATHIC MANUAL PRACTITIONER

Professional memberships: The General Osteopathic Council (United Kingdom), the Ontario Association of Osteopaths, and the Nova Scotia Association of Osteopaths.

Sarah graduated from Dalhousie University with a B.Sc. in Neuroscience as her first degree. Her keen interest in human anatomy, physiology, and psychology combined with a passion for enhancing health and wellness led her to study osteopathy. Sarah then earned a Master’s degree in Osteopathy from the University College of Osteopathy (formerly the British School of Osteopathy) in London, UK.

Sarah was drawn to the practice of osteopathy based on its core principles and approach to patient healthcare. Osteopathy is a manual therapy which views the body as a dynamic and interconnected unit, in which the person’s biology, psychological state, and social situation impact one another. The osteopathic approach to healthcare is a patient-centred one where the therapist strives to act as a catalyst in the person’s recovery process and their ability to manage their condition.

Her personal experience in the healthcare system has helped her understand the value of a patient-centred approach. In order to achieve a positive outcome, Sarah believes that healthcare must be a partnership between patient and practitioner. Each patient’s health needs and goals should be heard and treated in a manner individual to them.

Sarah aims to enhance each patient’s health and well-being by identifying the factors that are influencing the individual’s capacity to adapt and function in their environment. She tailors each appointment and management plan to suit the client’s personal goals, lifestyle, and general well-being by using a range of osteopathic manual techniques, providing lifestyle and exercise recommendations, and educating patients. Sarah predominantly works with structural osteopathic techniques but also uses craniosacral, functional, and visceral modalities.

She has experience providing osteopathic care in the UK and Canada. She is pleased to be working in Nova Scotia and providing care to people in her home community. Sarah regularly treats people in various stages of life, from youths to seniors, and with diverse needs, including athletes, pregnant women and office workers. She welcomes new and returning patients to her practice.

Sarah comes from Dartmouth, NS, where she has been involved in organized sport, community service, and leading youth recreational activities for most of her life. She enjoys spending time swimming, running, hiking, and playing soccer, as well as playing the piano and travelling.
